Polly Billington MP laying a wreath at the St George's Church Remembrance Service in Ramsgate

Polly has marked Remembrance week by planting a remembrance stake in Parliament’s Garden of Remembrance in Westminster, before marking Remembrance Sunday in Ramsgate at the Saint George’s Church service.

The St George’s service featured singing from the Thanet Big Sing Choir, in a packed church with scouts, cadets and a wide range voluntary organisations, as well as strong representation from local armed forces and veterans. After laying a wreath, Polly was welcomed to the Royal British Legion in Ramsgate for lunch.

Polly said:

“It was an honour to plant the Remembrance Cross in New Palace Yard in Westminster, to attend the St George’s Remembrance Service in Ramsgate, and to have lunch with the Royal British Legion this year to remember the fallen of East Thanet.
As the years pass we all know fewer and fewer people who served in the Second World War, but we do know those who served in later conflicts and continue to serve our country. We should use this time of year in particular to accord them our respect and attention.
They deserve a better deal from our country than they have had recently, which is why the Veterans Covenant is so important, and the government’s commitment to better housing standards for military families homes is something we can all be proud of.”
