Polly Billington MP Labour MP for East Thanet

Polly has marked International Women’s Day by giving a speech in the House of Commons. In her speech, Polly spoke about the recent conference she co-hosted in Cliftonville about tackling violence against women and girls in Thanet, and the changes women in Thanet want to see: safe streets, functioning mental health support, secure housing, and an end to male violence.
She also spoke about Claire Knight, who was tragically murdered by a man in 2023 while out walking her dog in Minnis Bay. Her killer was recently convicted and sentenced to 25 years in prison, but it’s important to know that he escaped arrest the day before Claire’s murder for upskirting. Polly said keeping women like Claire visible is an important part of the struggle to eradicate this violence and hatred of women.
