Polly Billington MP speaking in a debate about Labour's Employment Rights Bill

Polly has condemned attempts by the Conservatives to block a law being proposed by the government that would help protect hospitality workers from harassment by customers.

Speaking in a debate on the Employment Rights Bill, Polly said she was gobsmacking that the Conservatives have tabled an amendment that would exempt hospitality and sports venues from a requirement to take reasonable steps to protect their employees from harassment. Reform is also voting against Labour’s bill to expand rights and protections for workers.

More than 40% of workers in Ramsgate work in hospitality, with such roles often lower paid and less secure, which Polly said showed why such a law was needed. She said she had been a victim of harassment herself by customers when waiting tables when she was younger.
