Polly Billington MP speaking in the House of Commons

Polly has asked the Work and Pensions Secretary in the House of Commons about planned changes to Personal Independence Payments (PIP).

Her question followed the publication of government plans to reform Britain’s broken welfare system. Polly welcomed many of the proposed measures, including £1 billion of additional support to help people find and stay in work, a new youth guarantee to help young people access training and skills, and an uplift in the basic rate of Universal Credit.

However she expressed concern about changes to eligibility for PIP, which will make it harder for some people who struggle with daily tasks like washing and cooking to access support. She asked the Work and Pensions Secretary how those proposals supported the government’s mission to help people into work and protect the most vulnerable.
