Polly has raised her concern in parliament about reports that young women are being coerced into setting up online pornography accounts on Onlyfans to generate income for their abusive partners in Thanet.

She called for action from the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, Peter Kyle, after the local women’s protection charity Oasis raised the issue with her at a recent Violence Against Women and Girls conference in Thanet.

Responding to her call for action, Peter Kyle said:

She is a champion for these issues and Oasis, a great charity, is lucky to have her voicing their work and the need to make radical changes to keep people safe online here in the House of Commons. I can assure her that the situation she has described breaches several aspects of law in this country, including the need to take down illegal content.

I’ll be watching closely, as she will, and working closely with her to make sure that these new powers and the powers that are coming online are effective and how we adapt to these challenges in the future.
