Polly Billington MP Labour MP for East Thanet
Polly has marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day by attending events across East Thanet. She said:
VE Day this week was particularly special because it is the 80th anniversary, and we sadly have so few veterans of that war left with us. We must remember what they achieved, always stand up for our values, and secure peace for ourselves and our neighbours.
In Thanet it was wonderful to see the community spirit in full swing in Broadstairs with performances at the bandstand. Then I quickly made it over to Margate where I had the honour of taking part in Margate’s VE Day procession before the lighting of the beacon with Cllr Jack Packman and our wonderful cadets and scouts groups from across Margate.
