Polly has written to the Reform leader of Kent County Council for a second time, after a letter she sent urging the new council to reverse planned Tory cuts to services in Thanet went unanswered for over a month. In the original letter, which can be read by clicking here, the MP called on Reform to prove they were different than the Tories, by reversing devastating cuts to vital services like the Sarah Thorne Theatre in Broadstairs, the Millmead Children’s Centre in Margate, and Pie Factory Music in Ramsgate.

She said it was deeply troubling that she had received no response for over a month.

In the new letter, Polly said:

I am writing to you again as council leader to ask when I can expect a response to my letter dated 6 June regarding planned Conservative cuts to vital services in Thanet.

My constituents who depend on services like the Sarah Thorne Theatre, the Millmead Children’s Centre, and Pie Factory Music have been left in limbo over the past few months without reassurance from Reform in Kent that you intend to reverse these damaging Tory cuts.

It is troubling to me that more than a month after I wrote to you, I am yet to receive a response on a matter of such high importance. I note that over the same period you found the time to write an immediate reply to my colleague, Mike Tapp MP, when he wrote to you to express concern about your administration’s chaotic start.

As I said in my last letter, I am concerned about the launch of your ‘DOGE’ for Kent initiative, which explicitly seeks to cut council spending. While we all want to see councils run as efficiently as possible, I hope you can reassure me that these cuts will not fall on services that provide a lifeline to people in my community, as many fear they will. I would appreciate your response providing those reassurances.
