Polly has secured the opening of a new DVLA-approved eye testing centre in Ramsgate, making it far easier for local residents to access vital services close to home.
Polly’s intervention came as a result of a case raised by a local resident, who due to their diabetes was required to undergo a DVLA eye test every three years. At the time, the nearest available testing centre was in Dover, forcing residents in Thanet to make long and difficult journeys for routine but essential appointments.
Polly and her team wrote directly to the DVLA and Specsavers, pressing the case for a local testing centre in Thanet. Although Specsavers initially suggested a new site in Ashford was sufficient, the MP continued to push for a Thanet centre to be opened.
After sustained correspondence, Specsavers has now confirmed that a new DVLA eye testing centre has opened at its Ramsgate branch, significantly improving access for residents across East Thanet.
Speaking after the announcement, Polly said:
“This is a really positive outcome and that will make a real difference to those required to submit to regular eye tests by the DVLA. Nobody should have to travel miles out of their way for essential health checks, particularly when they are living with long-term health conditions. I’m delighted that following my intervention, Ramsgate now has its own DVLA eye testing centre.

The new testing centre will allow drivers across Thanet who require specialist DVLA eye tests to attend appointments locally, reducing travel time, inconvenience and stress.
