Polly has visited the site of the new Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit at the QEQM emergency department in Margate. The unit is being created with £28.9 million in government funding, as part of Labour’s plan to invest in the NHS and transform local patient care in Thanet and across the country.

The building work, due to be finished this summer, will create a new SDEC unit where acute specialists will assess, diagnose and treat patients on the same day of arrival who would otherwise have been admitted to hospital. Under this care model, patients presenting at hospital with certain conditions can be rapidly assessed, diagnosed and treated without being admitted to a ward, relieving pressure on NHS emergency care, cutting waiting times, and ensuring more patients can be seen quickly.

Polly said:

“This fantastic new facility is happening because the government has raised the money to invest in our NHS, with the biggest cash injection since Labour were last in government fifteen years ago. Turning around local NHS services is one of my biggest priorities as an MP, so I couldn’t be more excited to see this brilliant new unit open its doors later this year.”
