Polly has joined the Secretary of State for Communities, Steve Reed, on a visit to Thanet to meet local organisations making a difference in their communities.

The visit included The Hive, Newington Community Centre, and Pie Factory Music, Thanet’s last remaining youth centre that was recently saved from being sold off by Kent County Council, using money from Labour’s Ramsgate Pride in Place funding. On the visit, staff and volunteers showcased the support they provide to young people, families and residents across the area.

“It’s important that the people who make decisions in Westminster know what the reality is on the ground, not only the challenges but also the opportunities on offer,” Polly said. “Pie Factory Music is a really good example of that”

“It was brilliant to be part of the successful campaign against KCC’s decision to sell Pie Factory Music at auction, using money from the government, which means that the district’s only dedicated youth centre will continue to produce brilliant young people committed to making a difference in the community and committed to making the most of their own talents.”

The visit provided an opportunity to discuss how government can work with local organisations to strengthen communities and support Thanet’s future growth.
