Polly has been appointed as a minister in the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).
Polly said:
“I am honoured to have been asked by our new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, to serve as a Minister in the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
“Since the people of East Thanet elected me two years ago, some of my biggest priorities as an MP have been bringing down energy bills, making our energy system fairer for families and businesses, and delivering cheap, clean, home-grown renewable energy.
“It is a huge privilege to take that work into the Energy Department to help Andy deliver the change our country needs, and to put the voice of East Thanet at the heart of government.”
Polly’s promotion to being a government minister in DESNZ comes in a week when the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, has made tackling high bills a key priority. It was announced this week that VAT will be removed from electricity bills to help with the cost-of-living.
Other bold new announcements to help families and businesses cope with rising costs made by the new Prime Minister include reinstating the £2 bus fare cap, and cutting business rates for pubs, clubs, and music venues.
